Week 9 Left Right Brain MKMMA 2014

Our MKMMA journey continues and this week we are focusing on understanding how our brains work and why many of us have believed false information about our left and right sides of our brains. I am guessing anyone reading this has also heard and read that we are either left or right brained thinkers. The fact is we are both, always have been and always will be. That said, we may be naturally more of one than the other, but we are still very much both left and right thinkers. What’s cool is the bridge that connects one side with the next so we are in fact capable of using both and transmitting our thoughts with both sides considered. Let me introduce you to the Corpus Callosum…the bridge.corpus callosumThe corpus callosum is a thick band of nerve fibers that divides the cerebrum into left and right hemispheres. It connects the left and right sides of the brain allowing for communication between both hemispheres. It transfers motor, sensory, and cognitive information between the brain hemispheres. Right Hemisphere Left Hemisphere The Quick Facts  corpus callosum left and rightAs the MK class was learning this via our weekly webinar, it made me think of little kids….in fact, it made me think of my 4 year old grandson, Beckett. When he is in the “zone” of playful imagination he is challenging to get focused on a logistical matter…..his playful imaginative RIGHT side is so engaged, he barely hears calls for dinner, instructions to get his shoes and coat on, let alone the voice asking him to tidy his room. It takes him real focus to switch gears and get him even engaged in listening enough to switch his thinking to the LEFT side where he can do what is being asked. How cool is that…unless I am the one asking him to get focused….but how wonderful it is that kids can be so engrossed on their creative, imaginative LEFT sides where fantasy, exploration and dreaming take flight to a whole new time and place. Enjoy knowing that you are always between both sides of your brain and each allows you to do marvelous things! Even like race car driving :)corpus callosum racing car

Hi Lydia, I love your perspectives and observations. Ahh the Corpus Collosum! We are All, both/and. The Dance is quite magical and mysterious! What an adventure we are on of greater understanding of that magnificent mechanism, our very own brains. ’bout time we found the Owner’s Manual! :-) Sending Love to you and Gratitude.

I love your post because the truth will set me free. I am no longer a slave to left brain right brain fallacies. It is great to watch children and learn from them. I can’t wait to get into my second childhood. MKMMA is doing an excellent job of getting me there faster, and I welcome it!
